Online veterinary care allows you to access our veterinary team for advice, follow-ups, and early guidance between clinic visits. When used appropriately, it is a safe, effective extension of in-clinic care but not a replacement for hands-on examination when needed.

How Online Veterinary Care Is Kept Safe
- Maintain an Existing Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship
Online care is provided for pets who have an established and current relationship with Vetline or your regular clinic if in partnership with Vetline. This means:
- Your veterinarian already knows your pet
- Your pet has been examined recently in person
- Medical history and records are available
This continuity is one of the biggest safety factors in telemedicine.
- Clear Boundaries Protect Your Pet
Online veterinary care is designed for:
- Early or mild concerns
- Follow-up questions after a recent visit
- Monitoring known or stable conditions
- Preventative care, medication, nutrition, and behaviour advice
- Guidance on whether an in-clinic exam is needed
It is not used for emergencies or situations where a physical exam, diagnostics, or immediate treatment are required.
If your pet’s condition can’t be safely assessed online, your veterinarian will clearly advise you to come into the clinic.
- Veterinarians Decide When Online Care Is Sufficient
Your veterinarian always retains full clinical judgement. They may:
- Ask for additional information, photos, or videos
- Recommend monitoring at home
- Adjust advice based on your pet’s response
- Escalate care to an in-clinic appointment when needed
If online care is not sufficient to obtain and give the correct advice, we will stop and let you know; your pet’s wellbeing comes first.

Online consultations are:
- Properly documented
- Attached to your pet’s record
- Available to Vetline
This protects both pets and owners by ensuring advice is clear, traceable, and consistent with in-clinic care.
What Online Vet Care Cannot Do
Online veterinary care cannot:
- Replace a physical examination when one is needed
- Diagnose emergencies
- Perform procedures or diagnostics
- Guarantee outcomes without in-person assessment
If a condition worsens, changes suddenly, or causes concern, an in-clinic visit is always the safest option.
